Mast, Spars, Sails etc.

The tabernacle mounted main and mizzen masts and booms are by Ian Proctor, and all Raymond Wall designs and specification plans are on board.

They are in gilt-annodized alloy and each mast has been fitted with climbing steps to the top, allowing easy access to service masthead equipment etc.

A new set of smart royal blue ‘lazy bags’ sail covers were commissioned in 2011 by the French company, Seamtech, and they also manufactured matching covers for the external steering wheel, outboard cover winch etc.

The yacht has twin forestays, one with roller reefing for the genoa and the other for the various jibs, with snap shackles.

The main mast and mizzen mast are fitted with 2 speed Lewar winches and there are 2 large twin speed bronze winches (port & starboard) on the aft decking for the gib/genoa sheets.

Highlander carries a large suit of sails as follows:

2 x Large Main Genoas
3 x Various sized storm sails
3 x Main Sails
2 x Mizzen Sails
1 x Light Weather Spinacker style foresail

There is a large, full width Transom locker/Lazarette situated below the aft deck and spare sails are bagged and stored in this area, along with a multitude of extra equipment.

Within the Lararette locker is also situated the Webasto warm air central heating hot air blower system, which is internally ducted to all cabins and accommodation area. Within the same locker is also the independant fuel tank to supply this system.

There is also an emergency tiller system in the unlikely event of a steering failure.
